After visiting Justin Mortimer's website as you suggested, I feel that this piece envelopes the same dark psychological narrative as the rest of his work, but in a less literal and much more dynamic way. As David Trigg observes in his essay, these works seem to explore the susceptibility of the body as he places it in surreal settings that take advantage of the vulnerability of the flesh. I feel that the flowers in the piece you showed are a sort of stand in for the body that is only absent from this piece. The shroud of plastic has the double purpose of both suffocating the life behind it and reflecting light to indicate the photographic roots of the painting.
